DigiScribbles IV
Memories. Something that everyone wants to expand all the time, to store a zillion photos and videos they take to document every single point of their life, worthy of remembering or not. But what is a memory that needs proof that it existed? Not every moment in life is a happening and the brain knows exactly that… and memories are the highest priority of storage in our lives, stored up in our brain because they mark a milestone for us personally, something that added value to our lives.
In this age of technology, we are hoarding bytes of data by the million, yet we rarely tap this bank of useless collectibles and information. The random expansion of memory requirements and the constant need for upgradation in terms of 'storage' is just adding to our 'hoarder' mentality. Our society had taught us to declutter our lives regularly, be it every Diwali or Bhogi or Thanksgiving. But our ancestors didn’t think our lives would be filled with a clutter that cannot be touched physically, else they would have made rules that attached karma to that as well. But going past this materialistic memory, what is it that garners enough importance to get etched into our brain. I believe if we understood this, we wouldn’t be expanding our phones and lives digitally in such a rampant manner. How does our brain keep up it’s efficient file management system, that never seems to go out of fashion? The only system in the world that compartmentalizes for decades together, without tiring for a second, picking up stray data packs even when our body has entered a subconscious state.
It’s marvelous how memories stand testimony to our life and how each person associated with that memory has a different take on the same moment in life. Memories, pure experiences that become stories and then fables and then sagas and finally history. But do we all wish to leave behind a story? Who will share our story? And how many years will our story continue to be told? But above all, why do we want our stories to be retold. I wish we all understood that once we depart, we have no connections with the mortal realm, karma or not, we are never going to be what we are now once we cease to be. Some well wishers will ask then why make memories in the first place, why try to experience different things in life? Well, the statement answers for itself. You are making memories for this life, of experiences in this life, and the life is yours and yours only. Rather than satiating our need to be remembered, I wish we would focus our strengths on remembering and hope that our brain stays shotgun till our road trip in this life comes to an end.
